Do We Really Need to Burn Out to Succeed?

We were talking with a client today about how prevalent burnout has become in our culture over the past decade.

From being widely misunderstood and overlooked, to being recognised as a syndrome, to becoming almost a statement or even proof of productivity and success.

“I burned out, but then I…”

“If I hadn’t burned out, I would never have realised…”

Burnout is often presented as the beginning of a success story.

But do we really need to burn out to succeed?

Or did Hafis, the 14th-century Persian poet, know something we have yet to learn?

* A Divine Invitation

You have been invited to meet

the Friend.

No one can resist the Divine Invitation.

So all our choices come down

to just two:

we can come to God

dressed for the dance,

or be carried into His hospital room

on a stretcher.
